Cruise Jobs

Cruise Jobs -Combining Work and Pleasure

During the past years the United States armed forces started a campaign to make joining it look more attractive. They describe it as an opportunity to do what is attracting more and more interest in our times - see the world and thus enhance your life experience significantly. Fortunately, joining the army isn't the only way to make this kind of experiences. There are much safer possibilities, such as getting a job on board a cruise ship. There are many different options as to what you can do. You have to be aware that this job will require more dedication from you than the usual 9 to 5 day at the office, but to make up for this, you will in most cases get free accommodation and as well be able to benefit from the ship's medical care services for free. And best of all, you will travel the world and see new faces - and get paid for it.

Each cruise ship will have three administrative subdivisions: the deck, the hotel, and the engine department. There is one supervisor for each of them, namely the staff captain, the hotel manager and the chief engineer. To keep the organization running smoothly, the hotel manager and the chief engineer will both report to the staff captain, since he is the one running the deck. You should not expect to get a job as an officer or captain straight away - a degree from a naval academy will most likely be required for that -, but there are quite a few entry level jobs in the deck and the engine room that you can get with the help of the Seaman's Union. Most of them will be in the hotel department, which further splits into several smaller departments, as follows:

The common way to climb the career ladder on a cruise ship is to work up from an entry level position, but it might also be possible to enter somewhere in the middle, depending on your background and sphere of activity . So it is useful to have certain skills, but they can be achieved with some additional training as well. In almost all areas of the different departments there is the chance of career advancement. But there is one feature you should have in order to do a good job on a cruise boat, and that is to have an outgoing personality. A cruise boat with many different people on board and going through many different surroundings during a journey needs staff that is outgoing and flexible. If you remember this, you will make your way.

The often praised advantages of a job on board a cruise ship is the irresistible combination of traveling, sightseeing, human interaction, the benefit of having little living expenses and the possibility of recreation. The close relationship you are likely to build with your co-workers in this sailing environment is also one of the benefits. You can expect the job to require your presence on board for a minimum of four months. The break between your contracts will normally be about four to six weeks, but since you have hardly any expenses while being on the ship, you'll have a more than decent amount of expandable money during your breaks.
